Hugh and Fraser of the band Pict Off were the latest performers at Tuesday Bluesday. Last night at the Roslyn Library they regaled us with all sorts of songs (one of which seemed to be about a game of snakes and ladders, with a large dollop of Scots humour). Their set started with Ben Harper's Burn One Down, and they blazed through several other great songs, but as Hugh sang a particularly smoldering version of Wild Thing, the fire alarm went off!
It's the first time I've heard the alarm at Roslyn Library, and it was almost gentle enough to blend in with the music and add a nice electronica aspect. But then we hear a disembodied electronic voice telling everyone to get out! That wouldn't have fit so well with the songs, methinks.
Anyway, we trooped outside in what felt like sub-zero temperatures (except for the Scots folk, who possibly thought it was a nice toasty evening).
The entire Rossmont Shopping Centre had been evacuated ("Rossmont, not Roslyn?" I hear you ask. I know, it's an ancient mystery from the time of the Druids...)
We waited until the very last case of frostbite had occurred and then called it a day.
So, as a first gig for Pict Off, it was both a success and a bit of a disappointment - they played really well but only got halfway through their set! We'll have to have a rematch sometime. Watch this space.
OK, you can stop watching it now.
Song of the day: Fire by Arthur Brown. He is the god of hellfire! (Apparently).
